  • Consider a mock meet at your gym first to practice the format

Step 3: Get Your Equipment Right 🔧

Footwear

Equipment Checklist

  • ✅ Singlet (federation-approved)
  • ✅ T-shirt (under singlet)
  • ✅ Knee-high socks (required for deadlift in most federations)
  • ✅ Belt (optional but recommended)
  • ✅ Wrist wraps (optional)
  • ✅ Chalk / magnesium powder
  • ✅ Gym bag to carry everything

Step 4: Plan Your Attempts 📊

  • Opener (Attempt 1): 90–92% of your best training lift. Must go white lights.
  • Second attempt: 97–99% of your best training lift.
  • Third attempt: Your PR attempt.

Golden rule: Never open with a weight you haven't hit in training at least 3 times.

Step 5: Understand the Weigh-In ⚖️

  • Weigh-in is typically 24 hours or 2 hours before your flight
  • For your first meet: don't cut weight. Compete at your natural weight.
  • After weigh-in: eat, hydrate, and warm up properly

Step 6: Competition Day Routine 🗓️

  • Morning: Normal breakfast, arrive early, rack height check
  • Warm-up: Start 45–60 minutes before your flight. Work up to your opener in 4–5 sets.
  • Between lifts: Stay warm, hydrate, eat small snacks

Step 7: Know the Rules 📚

  • Squat: Not hitting depth (hips below top of knees)
  • Bench: Not pausing the bar on the chest
  • Deadlift: Hitching (bar resting on thighs during pull)

Practice with commands in training: "Squat", "Rack", "Press", "Start", "Down".
